NISKAYUNA, N.Y. –A new Walmart Neighborhood Market is coming to Niskayuna, creating a new choice for residents who want more affordable grocery options close to where they live or work. The store will be located at the intersection of Balltown Road and State Street and is the first one of this format to be announced in New York State. All town approvals have been secured, and work on the building site has begun. The Niskayuna Walmart Neighborhood Market is expected to be open by mid 2013.
“At Walmart, we have stepped up our efforts to make access to our brand more convenient and have incorporated a more flexible approach to communities that includes both large and small store formats,” said Bill Wertz, a Walmart spokesman. “Our Niskayuna store will offer a quick and convenient shopping experience for customers who need groceries, pharmaceuticals, and general merchandise all at our famous Every Day Low Prices.”
The 40,000-sq.ft. Neighborhood Market will be about one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter and will employ about 90 people. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and the company operates close to 200 locations nationally, offering services and items such as: fresh produce; meat and dairy products; frozen foods; dry goods and staples; health and beauty aids; stationery and paper goods; pharmacy; deli and bakery items; and pet supplies.
The Neighborhood Market will be the anchor of the new Mansion Square complex being developed by Highbridge Development, LLC, which includes both retail and restaurant outlets.
“Our development team worked closely with Walmart to bring this new concept store to Mansion Square in Niskayuna,” said John Roth, President of Highbridge Development. “We welcome the world leader in retailing to our site, which is now over 85% leased.”
