SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Stella Pasta Bar & Bistro, closed since losing its Burnt Hills location this past winter, reopens later this week in the historic Van Dyck building, at 237 Union St. in the Stockade district.

For its first weekend in a new space, the restaurant will be open from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday. The regular menu features appetizers, salads, pasta dishes and entrees, many in familiar Italian preparations including Marsala, Parmesan, picatta and saltimbocca. Its changing weekend specials will be available for dine-in and takeout on Fridays and Saturdays, with a “family takeaway meal” offered Tuesday through Thursday nights.

Starting next week, regular service will be from 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.

As part of the restaurant, Stella is debuting Seven Points Brewery, continuing a history begun 13 years ago when the Van Dyck launched its in-house Mad Jack Brewing Co. Brian Conley, former head brewer of Mad Jack, runs beer operations for Seven Points. The opening beers from Conley are an Italian pilsner, New England IPA, German fall lager and pumpkin ale.

Chef-owner Chris Sule told the Nippertown entertainment site that he intends to honor the building’s storied legacy as a performance venue by offering a “wide range of music, comedy and special events.”

Stella Pasta Bar & Bistro opened inside the Fo’Castle Farm store in Burnt Hills in 2016. When Sule announced its closure in mid-March, he said he’d already been trying to relocate and intended to reopen “as soon as possible, as close as possible, in a place that really works out for all of us.”

The Van Dyck opened in 1947 and was a destination for music, mostly jazz, for decades. It foundered in the late 1990s, was sold at auction and, in 2008, was auctioned again, this time to members of the McDonald family. At the time the family also owned other hospitality operations in Schenectady, including The Stockade Inn and the bar Pinhead Susan’s, both of which have since been sold. They had been winding down Van Dyck and Mad Jack operations over the past couple of years when the closure and takeover by Stella Pasta Bar & Bistro were announced.

Stella’s telephone number is 518-630-5173.
