School taxes are dropping, and school officials credit business development in the town.
September school tax bills will be $89 less than they were last year for a Glenville resident with a home assessed at $160,000, the Scotia-Glenville School District said in a news release.
The 2.51 percent tax decrease was adopted by the Board of Education Monday night and represents a more signifi cant decline than projected in the 2015-2016 school budget. In May, voters approved a budget that would reduce taxes by 1.48 percent.
School business administrator Andrew Giaquinto said taxes further declined thanks to:
Ongoing construction of the Patriot Square development off Route 50.
The addition of Dimension Fabricators in the Glenville Business and Technology Park to the tax rolls after a PILOT agreement expired.
And larger PILOT payments than expected from the Meadows at Glenwyck senior living project on Dutch Meadows Lane, Socha II development on Route 50 and CDTI in the business park.
Taxpayers can also receive a credit through the state’s tax rebate program in October because the district stayed within the maximum tax levy increase allowed by the state, which is 3.66 percent for Scotia-Glenville, the district said. A home assessed at $160,000 would receive a check for about $43.80.
