SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) announced the completion and opening of its expanded Center City location, at 433 State Street in downtown Schenectady. With the newly leased 11,000 square feet of space, SCCC now occupies the second floor of the building utilizing a total of 31,000 square feet. SCCC plans to bring more students and offer more classes at its downtown location.
“As our enrollment continues to grow, this additional space allows the college to add to the great opportunities that our Center City location has provided to students,” said Denise Murphy McGraw, Chairwoman of the SCCC Board of Trustees. “With the second floor we can expand our course offerings and bring more students, faculty and staff to this location.”
“SCCC at Center City has exceeded all of our expectations, allowing SCCC to offer more opportunities for our residents and bringing more people to our rejuvenated downtown,” said Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature. “We are excited that our community college continues to grow and benefit all of our students and the entire Schenectady County Community.”
With the new classroom space the college can offer more math, english, history, sociology, criminal justice, business, computer technology, and foreign language, classes as well as tutoring, academic advising, financial aid assistance and counseling services. Both for-credit and non-credit coursework will continue to be offered. The expansion also offers room to conduct workforce development training and workshops in addition to student and faculty conference space and common areas for a growing student population.
“The new, state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs, meeting rooms, and workforce development space provides a great advantage to our students and the community,” said Dr. Quintin Bullock, President of SCCC. ”As our student population continues to grow we are excited to expand on the success of Center City to provide the best educational and learning opportunities for our students.”
