Schenectady, N.Y. – Schenectady County will begin offering in-person library services, on a limited capacity, at 5 Schenectady County Public Library (SCPL) branches, starting on Monday, October 5, 2020. Patrons will be able to retrieve holds and select and checkout materials. Computers will be available on a limited basis and by appointment only.
Patrons are required to wear a mask, maintain physical distancing, and comply with all County procedures, which may include having their temperature taken and signing in for the purpose of contact tracing.
“I’ve heard from many members of our community who miss going to their local library,” said Schenectady County Legislator Peggy King, Chair of the Education & Libraries Committee. “While digital materials have been available throughout the pandemic, and we’ve added curbside pickup and virtual programing, it’s just not the same as walking into a library and discovering all it has to offer.”
“I’d like to thank Schenectady County for working with SCPL and the Board of Trustees to reopen 5 of our branches for in-person use starting next week,” said Bill Levering, Schenectady County Public Library Board of Trustees President. “Together we created a plan that balances the safety of our staff and patrons with the needs of the community.”
