Schenectady, N.Y. – Schenectady County officials today announced that Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. will invest $8.35 million to build a new 40,000 square foot cross dock distribution center at the Glenville Business and Technology Park in Glenville, NY. Earlier today, the County Industrial Development Agency approved the project.
Marty Finn, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature’s Committee on Economic Development and a member of the County IDA said, “Old Dominion is a leading national company with many locations to choose from to build their new distribution center and we are pleased that they selected Schenectady County. We welcome Old Dominion’s investment in Glenville, creating new jobs and adding to our tax base. This is yet another major win for our County economic development efforts.”
Chris Koetzle, Glenville Town Supervisor said, “The Town of Glenville welcomes this well-known national company to our community and we thank both the County IDA and Metroplex for their cooperative efforts to bring this new investment here. The Town stands ready to work with the County and Old Dominion to ensure that the planning and siting process goes smoothly. This is another important project for us and serves as an example of the growth we’re experiencing in Glenville.”
Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, “Old Dominion’s selection of the Glenville Business and Technology Park will help us land other companies who often cluster near their service centers. The Glenville site is ideally located right at Exit 26 of the NYS Thruway. We appreciate the strong support we received from the County, the Town of Glenville and the Galesi Group to bring this major new investment to our community.”
David Carter, Director of Marketing for Old Dominion said, “This larger service center will assist Old Dominion in efficiently handling higher volumes of freight moving in and out of the Northeast. In addition to cutting transit and delivery times, the new Glenville facility will allow us to maintain our promise of providing premier service to our customers.”
The new investment brings 38 jobs to Schenectady County in 2014 when the new building is completed with employment at the new Glenville facility expected to increase to 121 positions.
A cross dock distribution facility features doors on each side of the rectangular building to increase efficiency.
The company plans to purchase a 13 acre site located at the entrance to the Business Park just off of Exit 26 of the NYS Thruway.
Old Dominion is based in Thomasville, North Carolina. The company has been in business since 1934 and is known for helping customers keep their promises by delivering products on-time through a national network of service centers. Old Dominion was voted as one of the 100 most trustworthy companies by Forbes Magazine. The company has more than 12,000 employees and annual sales of more than $2 billion.
Construction of the new facility is expected to start later this summer with completion in 2014.
The Schenectady County IDA, which is administered by Metroplex as part of Schenectady County’s unified economic development team, will provide a payment in lieu of tax (PILOT) agreement that will collect 100% of the existing land taxes on the site with taxes on the new buildings starting at 50% in year one increasing in 5% increments over ten years. The IDA will also provide an exemption on sales tax for building materials used to construct the facility.
