Northeast Parent & Child Society’s YouthBuild Schenectady Receives $1.1 Million Federal Grant to Prepare 72 Young Adults For In-Demand Careers

Schenectady, N.Y. –- YouthBuild Schenectady, a comprehensive educational and career training program for young adults administered by Northeast Parent & Child Society, an affiliate of Northern Rivers Family Services, was awarded a $1.1 million grant by the United States Department of Labor. The grant will enable 36 young adults from Schenectady per year for two years to participate in full-time YouthBuild Schenectady programming and pursue career tracks in the construction, energy efficiency and healthcare fields. Established in 2006, YouthBuild Schenectady has helped hundreds of young adults find stable, satisfying careers.

“Northern Rivers Family Services is committed to helping young people build lives that are personally rewarding to themselves and useful to the community,” said Raymond Schimmer, CEO of Northern Rivers. “This is the culmination of years of hard work on the part of the staff at Northeast.”

The announcement drew praise from local supporters. “These are the types of investments that create jobs, train the workforce of the future and rebuild the middle class,” said Congressman Paul Tonko. “I congratulate YouthBuild Schenectady for winning this grant and look forward to continuing to work with them to empower our local communities and educate our young people at the same time.”
