SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The Galesi Group today announced plans to construct a new Hyatt House hotel at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady, NY. The new hotel will be built on the north side of the Harbor, east of the recently approved Mohawk Harbor Arena.
“This development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing revitalization of Schenectady and the Capital Region,” said David M. Buicko, President & CEO of the Galesi Group. “Mohawk Harbor is already one of the leading tourist destinations Upstate and the new arena will bring even more visitors to our waterfront development, so a new hotel is needed to keep pace with demand. We are pleased to bring the Hyatt House brand to this area.”
The new hotel will be five stories tall and will include 100 rooms in more than 75,000 square feet of space. The Hyatt House will be the third hotel at Mohawk Harbor joining the nearby 124-room Courtyard by Marriott and 165-room Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino and Resort. The new hotel will feature an indoor pool, expanded fitness facility, a bar with an outdoor patio overlooking the Harbor and a 50-person meeting room.
“The Hyatt House hotel at Mohawk Harbor represents a major investment in the future of the fast-growing hospitality industry in Schenectady County,” said Cathy Gatta, Vice Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature and Chair of the Tourism, Arts and Special Events Committee. “With the new arena and more hotel rooms. Schenectady County will be aggressively competing for regional and statewide tournaments and conferences.”
“The new Hyatt at Mohawk Harbor is another step forward in transforming the former Alco site into one of the largest and most successful waterfront developments in New York State,” said Mayor Gary McCarthy.
Todd Garofano, Executive Director of Discover Schenectady said, “The addition of the Hyatt House will undoubtedly enhance Schenectady County’s appeal as a premier destination for travelers and help fill the need for much needed hotel rooms. It’s a perfect complement to the new Mohawk Harbor Arena and we look forward to welcoming guests to experience all the attractions our County has to offer.”
Ray Gillen, Chair of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority said, “The new hotel adds to the momentum that continues to build at Mohawk Harbor, downtown and throughout Schenectady County. We thank the Galesi Group for this latest investment in our community.”
Site work for the new Mohawk Harbor Arena has already begun and hotel construction will start following required city approvals.
