Schenectady, N.Y. – Schenectady City and County officials today announced plans by the Mallozzi Familyto open a new restaurant in downtown Schenectady. The new restaurant will be called “Johnny’s.” It will be located at Center City directly across the street from Proctors.
“This is the best location in the Capital Region – right across the street from Proctors,”said John Mallozzi speaking on behalf of the Mallozzi Group. “Our plan is to create a fun and memorable Italian dining experience for our customers. Schenectady has always been our home. Villa Italia continues to do extremely well. We expect Johnny’s to build on this success and our family’s reputation for great food in a unique setting that overlooks Proctors and the Proctors Block in downtown Schenectady.”
Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “The Mallozzi Family is a treasured part of Schenectady. Johnny’s will be a great addition to downtown. This is fantastic news.” The new location will feature outdoor dining on the patio and porch area of Center City. John Mallozzi, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America will serve as general manager of the new facility.
Construction will start immediately with an opening planned before the holiday season begins.
The Mallozzi Group also operate:

–Treviso at the Italian American Center in Albany
–The Clubhouse Restaurant at Western Turnpike Golf Course in Guilderland
–The Colonie Golf and Country Club in Voorheesville
–The Belvedere Hotel in Rotterdam and
–The Mallozzi Banquet facility in Rotterdam
About 25 jobs will be created at the new facility. The Mallozzi Group will invite students from SCCC’s culinary program to apply for positions at Johnny’s. SCCC has a downtown campus at Center City.
