“Fix Erie Now” Website Provides Project Updates

July 12, 2012

Schenectady, N.Y. – The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today announced that it has launched a new website, www.fixerienow.com, which is designed to provide updates on the Erie Boulevard Reconstruction Project.

Metroplex worked closely with the City of Schenectady to develop the new website. The City is using $14 million in federal, state and local funding to redevelop and reconstruct Erie Boulevard.

Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “This website is designed to help City residents, commuters and visitors track our progress in fixing Erie Boulevard. The website will feature news and project updates as well as traffic advisories.”

Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen said, “The redevelopment of Erie Boulevard is critical to the redevelopment of downtown.  By partnering with the City, our goal is to provide frequent project updates and as well as answer any questions that might arise during construction.”

The website contains project updates, a rendering of the new Erie Boulevard and a place to submit questions by email.

The Erie Boulevard Project is expected to be completed in late 2013.  The new Erie Boulevard will connect a growing tech campus at GE with a revitalized Alco site that is undergoing a major riverfront development.  A new $14 million Amtrak station will also be built on Erie Boulevard along with bike lanes, sidewalks, a treed median, new crosswalks and other features designed to welcome residents and visitors to downtown Schenectady.
