SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Ellis Medicine is proud to announce the upcoming relocation of its Finance Department to the Center City building in the heart of downtown Schenectady. This move marks a significant step in Ellis Medicine’s transition off the McClellan campus following its previously announced sale.
The relocation involves approximately 50 employees who perform essential back-office functions—and adds to the 100 employees already located at the MVP Building downtown. The newly relocated employees are scheduled to begin work in a 10,000-square-foot space at Center City on Monday, Dec. 9. The move was made possible with logistical support from Metroplex Development Authority and the Galesi Group, the landlord for this prominent downtown location at the corner of State and Jay Streets.
“Our move to Downtown Schenectady is an investment in the city’s continued revitalization and a commitment to being an active partner in its growth,” said Paul Milton, President & CEO of Ellis Medicine. “This relocation not only enhances our employees’ work environment but also integrates them into the vibrant culture of downtown, where they can contribute to the local economy by shopping, dining, and enjoying all the city has to offer.”
Marc Mesick, Chief Financial Officer of Ellis Medicine, added: “This move represents a strategic step for Ellis Medicine, not only in the transition off the McClellan campus but in supporting the broader economic development efforts of our community.”
City officials applauded the relocation as a boost for the downtown district. “We are thrilled to welcome Ellis Medicine’s team to the heart of our city,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. “This move highlights the momentum we’ve built in making Downtown Schenectady a destination for businesses, workers and residents alike.”
The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, a key partner in securing this space, emphasized the significance of Ellis Medicine’s commitment. “Having Ellis Medicine’s finance team join the downtown community is a tremendous win for Schenectady,” said Ray Gillen, Chair of Metroplex Development Authority. “This move strengthens the downtown economy and we thank Ellis Medicine for making this move.”
Ellis Medicine has centralized operations in recent years—moving multiple services from the McClellan Street campus to Ellis Hospital and Bellevue Woman’s Center—to maximize staffing coverage, improve efficiency and enhance the patient experience. While the McClellan campus begins its new chapter as it is redeveloped, Ellis remains committed to serving the community. Both the Belanger School of Nursing and the Family Health Center—including its primary care and pediatrics practices—will continue to operate at the site.
