Capital Living and Rehabilitation Centres Starts Construction of New $30 million Facility in Schenectady

April 3, 2012

Capital Living and Rehabilitation Centres is proud to announce the start of construction of their new state of the art 240 bed skilled nursing facility in the City of Schenectady. This new nursing home will consolidate two existing facilities – “The Avenue” and “The Dutch Manor” which has 154 beds and 86 beds respectively.

This modern nursing home will realize operational efficiencies and provide enhanced services with all the latest nursing facility amenities and a state of the art rehabilitation gym.

The project is expected to generate approximately $30 million in construction activity and will create and maintain over 300 permanent jobs. The two existing facilities currently have been providing skilled nursing services in Schenectady for close to 40 years.

Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “The City cooperated fully in granting all needed approvals for this project because it will be a great asset to our community. Capital Living’s s new facility will bring new jobs and investment to Schenectady and will provide a place close to home for our seniors who need skilled nursing care.”

“We applaud Capital Living for this significant financial investment,” said Chamber of Schenectady County President Chuck Steiner. “This facility will retain much-needed jobs as well as provide the very best in nursing home facilities and care for the senior citizens of Schenectady County.”

“This is a ten year dream that is finally coming to fruition,” according to Patrick Martone, CEO of Capital Living. “This residential looking building will compliment the surrounding community and provides an open air park like setting when entering the campus. This building will be more efficient for residents, families and staff, to get around and greatly improve the quality of life for all.”

The completion of this project will have an immediate positive impact on the older adults and the frailest populations in the community. It will also position Capital Living to develop assisted living and other possible senior services for a full continuum of care concept, as areas of need are identified. Martone added “This really is the first step to ensuring that our parents, spouses and other family members have options to enjoy dignity, flexibility, care options and respect with access to various levels of care that is best for each individual’s specific needs”.
