SCHENECTADY. N.Y. – Mayor Gary McCarthy announced the City of Schenectady is seeking bids to demolish another round of vacant blighted buildings. The demolition bids are due by 10:30am on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. The funding will be allocated through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
“These severely distressed properties are some of the worst of the worst structures that are beyond repair and harm quality of life in our neighborhoods,” Mayor McCarthy said. “The removal of these structures is part of a focused and strategic effort to revitalize neighborhoods and strengthen the future of our community.”
The 13 properties include eight in the Hamilton Hill and Vale neighborhoods, four in Mont Pleasant, and one in the Goose Hill neighborhood:

• 943 Maple Avenue
• 702 Westover Place
• 347 Summit Avenue
• 756 Culter Street
• 1360 Crane Street
• 1517 Avenue B
• 24 Eagle Street
• 10 Catherine Street
• 12 Moyston Street
• 34 Moyston Street
• 928 Pleasant Street
• 552 Crane Street (porch only)
The properties in the Hamilton Hill and Vale neighborhoods are within the City’s Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA). These eight demolitions in the NRSA will create five buildable parcels.
The City’s Department of Development successfully worked with HUD to receive the NRSA designation to reduce blight through demolition and housing rehabilitation as outlined in the City’s 2020-2024 HUD Consolidated Five-Year Strategic Plan.
The Cutler Street, Crane Street, and Pleasant Street properties are in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood and within the City’s HUD-designated Mont Pleasant Renewal Area, a collaborative initiative to target blight and vacancy within the neighborhood.
In partnership between the City of Schenectady, the Capital Region Land Bank, and the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, over 200 blighted vacant buildings have been demolished in recent years to revitalize City of Schenectady neighborhoods.
