Schenectady, N.Y., February 21, 2024 — The Capital Region Land Bank will continue its fight against blighted properties in Schenectady County by issuing bids this week to demolish 11 vacant and abandoned buildings. The bids are due back on March 12th with demolitions scheduled for Spring/early Summer.
“The Land Bank’s mission is to eliminate structures that detract from property values and negatively impact nearby residents. We are pleased to move forward with 11 more blight-busting demolitions continuing the positive momentum in our neighborhoods,” said Richard Ruzzo, Chair of the Capital Region Land Bank and a member of the Schenectady County Legislature.
The following properties will be included in the demolition bid:
- 140 Elm Street in Delanson
- 13 Habel Lane in Glenville
- 210 Chism Street in Rotterdam
- 519 and 608 South Avenue plus a deteriorated six-stall garage in Schenectady
- 532, 532 ½, 534, 535 ½ and 536 Paige Street in Schenectady
Last year, the Land Bank demolished 12 buildings downtown. Another seven demolitions are in the works for Albany Street in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood.
The Land Bank is administered by Metroplex as part of Schenectady County’s unified economic development team.
