SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Metroplex Board of Directors met this evening and approved a $75,000 grant and a sales tax exemption for a fast-growing renewable energy firm that is setting up a new office in Downtown Schenectady. Pearce Renewables is leasing the top floor at 155 Erie Boulevard, a historic firehouse that was converted to office space by Spraragen Partners.

Pearce Renewables is the largest independent services provider in the renewable energy industry, providing repair, maintenance, and engineering services for solar, wind, electric vehicle (EV), and energy storage system customers nationwide.

Following the office space renovation, Pearce expects to locate 10 staff downtown to service GE Vernova and other customers throughout the United States. GE Vernova is investing $50 million, creating 200 new jobs at the company’s downtown campus to build onshore wind turbines.

Last year, Metroplex announced plans by Jupiter Bach, a tier-one supplier to the wind industry, to set up a new assembly plant in Rotterdam. The County’s economic development team is currently working with other wind suppliers interested in locating operations in Schenectady.

Spraragen Partners have renovated a number of buildings in downtown Schenectady in recent years, including The Benjamin at 430 Franklin and 530 Franklin Street.
