Tours are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting at 11a.m., 1:30p.m., and 4 p.m. until mid-October. Reserve tickets are $55 per person, with a maximum of eight people. The entire boat can be reserved for $440. Four and six-hour trips are also available by request. Great for parties, birthdays, office events & other special occasions. The tour boat’s pilot, Captain George Kozer, is a decorated United States Coast Guard veteran who served on a cutter in Alaska performing numerous life-saving helicopter search and rescue missions in the Aleutians. An experienced big game fisherman, Kozer is now a semi-retired business owner who has called the Capital Region home for the past 25-years.
“My top priority is always the safety of my passengers, followed by giving them a fun and historic ride on the Mohawk River,” said Mohawk River Boat Rides owner & operator, Captain George Kozer.
“We are excited to once again partner with Captain George Kozer to promote this great attraction in Schenectady County,” said Discover Schenectady Executive Director, Todd Garofano. “Building off a successful first year in 2022, we look forward to welcoming visitors and locals alike for this unique opportunity to learn about the Erie Canal’s rich history and enjoy the beauty of our community from a different perspective.”
Brief tour description
Tours travel East on the river going under different bridges, some still active and others taken down years ago with historic value from the Erie Canal days. We pass the sleepy and quaint Hamlet of Alplaus on the southeastern corner of the town of Glenville, then onto view the wonderful remains of the historical aqueduct that still stands. We will travel past high cliffs of Rexford and the rolling hills of Niskayuna and Vischers’ Ferry until we stop and turn at Lock 7, where you will see the only dam and hydro-plant on the river. Returning we will pass by the Rivers Casino and view Schenectady‘s historical Stockade waterfront. We will then go by the isles of Cayugas, Onondagas, Oneidas, Mohawk and Seneca all named after native Indian tribes from New York. Next, on to Lock 8 and turn around headed back through Scotia.
