Schenectady, N.Y. — It’s lights, camera, action in Schenectady and you have a chance to be a part of it.
Armory Studios and its soundstages on Washington Avenue will be used for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” the latest installment of the popular franchise.
For the city and the county, it only builds on their impressive and fast-growing resume.
Amazon Prime’s “Modern Love” shot in Schenectady, Troy and Albany. Showtime also shot scenes for it’s upcoming drama series “Three Women” in Schenectady. HBO’s “The Guilded Age” and “The White House Plumbers” also shot in the area.
It adds up to likely even more productions choosing the area in the future, as the city’s reputation grows. There’s also a financial shot in the arm for local businesses, since the show’s crew will be spending extended time staying here:
“We’re expecting this to generate more than 400 room nights at local hotels, plus Airbnb’s, and certainly the spend at area restaurants and shops,” said Discover Schenectady’s Executive Director Todd Garofano.
We’re so happy to have them coming after we had such success from Amazon Prime’s Modern Love. The word is out that Schenectady is the place to be for filming,” said Schenectady County Legislator Cathy Gatta, who is also President of the Discover Schenectady Board of Directors.
Both Garofano and Gatta say this is great, not just because of how the hotel and restaurant industries were hit by the pandemic, but also because this time of year is a slower time for business to begin with. They tell us “Modern Love” was a similar scale production, and it brought in around $5 Million.
One of the most exciting parts about this is the part you can play. The production team is looking to hire around 300 local extras of all ages. You can register for free here.
