Schenectady Named One of Top 10 Cities for First-Time Homebuyers

April 8, 2021

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The City of Schenectady has been named one of the top ten cities in the country for first-time homebuyers in 2021, according to a report by realtor.com.

The report considered several factors such as home prices compared with local incomes; the percentage of 25- to 34-year-olds living in these places; the number of homes for sale; job opportunities; distance to work; and amenities such as bars and restaurants.

“Over the last several years we have made great progress as a community,” Mayor Gary McCarthy said. “While this past year has presented many challenges, we are proud to receive this recognition and look forward to building back better.”

During his first-term, Mayor McCarthy established the award-winning HOMES Initiative (Homeownership Made Easy in Schenectady) to promote and facilitate housing opportunities throughout Schenectady through partnerships with area banks, realtors, and other housing-related entities.
