Schenectady, N.Y. — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today announced plans by Upstate Dermatology, PC to expand the company’s medical and surgical office space in downtown Schenectady.
The medical practice based in Castleton, NY currently leases 6,500 square feet in a two-story 10,000 square foot building at 461 Clinton Street Extension. The company will purchase the building and renovate a vacant space next store at 318 Broadway combining the two buildings into one footprint. The newly expanded medical and surgical space will enable Upstate Dermatology to increase their services to the community.
All local approvals for the project are complete and site work for the project is underway with completion set for Spring of 2021.
“Metroplex is pleased to work with Upstate Dermatology and Plank Construction on this creative reuse of an historic building at 318 Broadway coupled with new construction creating an expanded medical office complex in the heart of downtown,” said Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair.
Brian Brill, Business Director for Upstate Dermatology said, “This unique restoration opportunity will enable us to expand our medical and surgical services to the Schenectady region at our current downtown location. The building at 318 Broadway dates back to the late 1800’s previously serving as the home for a feed grain distributor, fruit and vegetable seller and finally a tool and saw sharpening business. We look forward to expanding our services in the new office space in the Spring of 2021.”
The expansion retains 17 jobs and creates 8 new jobs. Upstate Dermatology has medical offices in Schodack, Chatham, Clifton Park and Schenectady.
