Schenectady, N.Y.  — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today joined with the Village of Scotia to announce another major building upgrade on Mohawk Avenue, the main business corridor in the Village.

Rolling Greens, one of the largest buildings in the Village, will upgrade its façade at 217 Mohawk Avenue with an assist from Metroplex and the Village of Scotia’s Revolving Loan Fund.

The Rolling Greens project comes on the heels of the recently announced plan to redevelop the vacant former McDonald’s site also located on Mohawk Avenue.

Frances Lawyer, owner of Rolling Greens said, “We are proud to continue to invest in our facility on Mohawk Avenue. We look forward to our new look this year and we thank Metroplex and the Village for working with us to get this project rolling.”

Marty Finn, Chair of the County Legislature’s Committee on Economic Development said, “This is one of the largest buildings in the Village and it fronts directly on Mohawk Avenue so upgrading this façade will be another major boost to our efforts to revitalize this area.”

Scotia Mayor Kris Kastberg said, “It is great to see many of our established businesses joining in the effort to improve the downtown area of our village. The support from Metroplex and the County in the recent improvement efforts in Scotia have really paid dividends for both our existing businesses and the new ones coming in.”

Frances Lawyer has owned Rolling Greens since 1999. The facility features 20 lanes on two floors, restaurant and game area. The business has five full-time and one part-time employee.

Metroplex will provide a façade improvement grant of $13,000. The Village Revolving Loan Fund is expected to provide a $12,000 loan to help support building renovations. .

The Village of Scotia is undergoing a major upgrade with the opening of the new Scotia Diner across from Scotia Cinema, the new $8 million Scotia Manor Apartments opening on Mohawk Avenue, the demolition of a vacant and derelict building at 302 Mohawk Avenue by the Village and the County, plus a major upgrade planned for the former McDonald’s site at the entrance to the Village.
