Schenectady, N.Y. — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority announced today that it will provide a $40,000 façade grant toward the $130,000 cost of upgrading the façade at 108 Union Street in the historic Stockade District in downtown Schenectady.

“This is an important building in Schenectady and we are pleased to play a part in its renovation,” said Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen.

The building at 108 Union Street was built in 1831 and was used for many years as a County Courthouse.

The building is being renovated by Mr. Reza Mahoutchian, a developer who has successfully redeveloped a number of properties in downtown Schenectady including more than 80 apartment units in the Stockade as well as a number of properties on lower Union Street in downtown including 609 (Orenda Yoga Studio), 611 (Marotta’s) 613 (Bier Abbey), 617 (Café Nola) and 619 (Gorgeous Hair Salon). The apartments that Mr. Mahoutchian has renovated are located at 4, 6, 210, 225, and 227 Union Street.

“Union Street in downtown looks fantastic and Reza was the craftsman who helped get these historic buildings looking so great. Now, he is using his considerable skills on 108 Union Street and the difference is already very visible for the Stockade neighborhood and for downtown,” Gillen added.

Mr. Mahoutchian said, “I currently have a health and wellness studio looking at leasing 108 Union Street. This is a great building in a wonderful neighborhood. I am pleased to partner with Metroplex to renovate another building in Schenectady.”
