Elysium Industries to Open Office in Downtown Schenectady
Engineering Company Focused on Clean Energy Will Move to
Electric City Innovation Center
Schenectady, N.Y., October 12, 2016 – The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, SUNY Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) and the Electric City Innovation Center (ECIC) today announced that Elysium Industries Limited of Canada will open an office in downtown Schenectady at 433 State Street.
Kelsey Stappen, COO of Elysium Industries Limited said, “As our company grows, we see the Capital Region as a great location to center our engineering operations. The breadth and depth of technical talent in the area, access to colleges and universities, and proximity to Boston, New York City, and Ottawa were major factors in selecting the Capital Region.”
Elysium selected the Schenectady location over competing sites in the Northeastern United States. The space at 433 State Street to be occupied by the company is already included in the Start-Up NY program, and Elysium has applied for inclusion in the program working closely with SUNY SCCC. The company expects to create 12 jobs in Schenectady over the next several years.
Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature said, “We welcome Elysium Industries, another high tech business choosing set up shop in Schenectady County. We thank Metroplex, SCCC and ECIC for their efforts to bring this new company to downtown Schenectady.”
Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen said, “We welcome Elysium and thank them for opening an office here. We have a tremendous amount of talent in the power industry in Schenectady County. This is a growing industry cluster in our community.”
Bill Kernick ECIC Executive Director said, “Elysium Industries is a great addition to the ECIC. Given the power focus, the company is an ideal fit for Schenectady and for ECIC, and we are excited to have another new business join our shared work tech community in the heart of downtown.”
Elysium’s Boston headquarters is located at a WeWork facility which helped to attract the company to ECIC in Schenectady. “We loved the modern, high tech look of the ECIC,” said Elysium COO Stappen. “The high speed internet, conference rooms, and laboratory space were major benefits relative to traditional office space,” she said.
Denise Zieske, Vice President for Workforce Development and Community Education at SUNY SCCC said, “The Start-Up New York program was a key factor in attracting this high-tech company from Boston. SUNY SCCC is proud to work with our partners to bring more tech companies and jobs to our community.”
Elysium Industries is a high technology energy firm with headquarters in Boston. The company is designing safe, cost effective, and carbon conscious clean energy through the development of advanced salt reactors.
