Metroplex Statement on Van Dyck Loan

Schenectady, N.Y., January 11, 2007 - Metroplex today announced that it will start foreclosure proceedings on the Van Dyck. Metroplex staff met with the owner of the Van Dyck earlier today and asked for immediate repayment of the outstanding loan balance or a firm financing commitment from a bank or investor. The owner of the Van Dyck provided information to Metroplex today that indicates a serious level of interest on the part of several investor groups who would invest in the jazz club and restaurant and retire the Metroplex debt. However, the owner did not provide the firm financing commitment required by today's deadline so Metroplex will begin the foreclosure process.

This Statewide organization will hold its fall meeting, the NYS Arts Summit, at Proctors new conference space on September 9, 10 & 11, 2007. The Alliance will be the first group to utilize the new conference spaces in the former Carl Company building.

Bechtel Agrees to Keep Engineering Jobs in Schenectady

Today, Senator Charles E. Schumer, Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton, Congressman Michael R. McNulty, Governor Eliot Spitzer, County Legislature Chair Susan E. Savage and Mayor Brian U. Stratton today announced that after intensive negotiations, Bechtel has agreed to retain 130 employees at its existing facility in downtown Schenectady that was scheduled to close. Another 30 employees now located at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) will be offered the opportunity to interview for open positions at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab (KAPL) in nearby Niskayuna. Finally, it is expected that about 60 employees will retire while another 70 positions will most likely relocate to the Pittsburgh area. BPMI currently employs 290 in Schenectady.

Metroplex Takes First StepToward Conveying Property to the "New" Schenectady Museum

Schenectady, N.Y., March 26, 2007 -- The Metroplex Board of Directors today declared itself lead agency in the first step toward conveying a 2.5 acre parcel on Broadway in downtown Schenectady to the Schenectady Museum. The Museum Board voted unanimously to select the Broadway site after considering numerous sites in the Capital Region. Museum officials believe that the visibility and accessibility of the site, located in the heart of downtown Schenectady yet easily accessible to I-890 makes it an extremely attractive location for the new facility that is necessary for the Museum to achieve its plan to become a regional science center.
